A Human Tragedy

Losing our ability to love one another is, in my opinion, one of the greatest failures of mankind thus far. But what’s worse is that I’m not even sure if we’ve ever managed to reach a state of loving that inherently gives us the ability to see beyond any sort of false divisions.  The divisions exist now, have no doubt about it. They have been deliberately created by twisted, maniacal heads of state, be they kings or politicians, in order to keep us from uniting as one. The sheer idea of allowing the masses to tap our full potential, discover our true purpose in life, scares the buckets out of the elites.

Perhaps there was a time when we really loved one another but I personally have no recollection of that. For as long as I’ve lived and as far back as I can recall we’ve always just been fighting each other, squabbling about our differences, struggling to prove who is right. Who is better. Who is superior. For instance, we’re still having a conversation about racism and yet 1965 seems so far back to me. Why are we still talking about this? That conversation should be over and done with by now.

If only we could dismantle our thought patterns long enough to see beyond this veil! Perhaps  if we took a giant step back and observed much like being the audience of our own existence we’d recognise the immense power of the human spirit. Maybe, just maybe, then we’d realise that humanity as a collective has a tremendous power yet unleashed… and with it, the ability to flourish beyond expectations. We’d leap light years ahead of anything remotely imaginable in our current state of ignorant bliss.

You see, it’s not about race, it’s not about religion or any of that other bullshit load of crap you’ve been fed. It’s about humanity. We’re destroying ourselves, FFS. And why? Because you don’t like black people? You don’t like Jews? You don’t like gays? Get over it. In 100 years, we’ll all be dead and what will your grand kids have to say about you? Will they even remember you? Let me ask you this? Do you know the name of your GREAT GREAT grandparents? Probably not. And you know why? Because they didn’t do anything great. But you can.

There is so much that divides us, yet, we’re all pretty much the same. We all need water to survive, we all breath the same air and if I cut you you, as I, will bleed. We all love at one point and we all hurt at other times. Who doesn’t like a good joke? Friends? We all have them, or at least most of us. There are certain emotions which we can all share and relate to so despite what you might BELIEVE, we’re truly not so different, except perhaps on the outside but the outside is actually irrelevant now, isn’t it?

The human spirit is meant to be free, loving, creative, passionate, wise, curious and as our universe, it is without limits. What stops us from greatness? What keeps us from loving each other? Respecting one another? Why is there so much hate in the world? These are questions I’ve asked myself since childhood. None of this has ever made any sense to me. The first time I had my ass kicked in grade school by one of the biggest meanest bullies, I was shocked not so much by the blows but the reason she had for not liking me… because I had buck teeth and dressed weird. That was it. That was all. This gave her the right to humiliate me, beat my tiny body to a bloody pulp and traumatise me for life. I had to suffer because I was a little different? It didn’t make any sense to me then, and it still does not now when I see so much hate in the world.

Ok, you get the point, right? So, how do we fix this? There is no silver bullet unfortunately, but I think here is how we can start. First of all, there are plenty of open minded people in the world that are wise enough to correct their faults, (hat-tip) but let’s start with the people that are completely blocked and unwilling to change at all because they so deeply believe they are absolutely right.

Let’s take a full-blown terrorist for instance. The common terrorist doesn’t believe they are wrong and technically to them, we are wrong and he/she is right. We call him a terrorist because his/her actions are extreme and actually brutal to most civilised people,  but in their mind their actions are justified (i.e., he/she is fighting to liberate his/her people from oppression) and we’re the brutal ones (rampant bombings, tortures, etc). First,  it could very well be that the governments they’re fighting against are indeed oppressing them somehow so let’s not be so quick to judge. Let’s listen. Listening to each other can help resolve a lot of differences. Surely,  some actions are incredibly difficult to justify, but keep in mind that we neither see or experience their lives day to day and therefore, we must acknowledge their feelings, grudges, qualms, fears, worries, anger, etc so that we can begin to put an end to it. We don’t do that enough. We just bomb people and then expect them to sit down and shut up. Why is that OK?

Most of the time, people just believe what the media spits out, but as people, we don’t genuinely listen to people on the other side, so let’s start as soon as possible. Let’s get a conversation going. Let’s talk, FFS, without all the hate. Without all the finger pointing. Just tell me, what’s on your mind. Why do you hate me so much when I’ve done nothing to you personally. Let’s listen to each-other, let’s talk and hopefully we can find a way out of this fucking mess.

Another thing I think lots of people need to stop doing is judging so much. Seriously, we’re all in one way or another fucked up. Nobody is perfect. If you think you’re perfect, you’re more fucked up than anyone else so just accept that you’re a mess like everyone else and it’s ok to be a complete disaster. You’re human. It’s actually quite awesome so just admit it to yourself, you don’t have to shout it out to the entire world, but be honest with yourself and that’s enough. There’s no need to knock anyone down to make others think you’re better. Just be who you are and literally embrace your fuckedupdness (that’s not actually a word, but hey… you get the point, right?).

Let’s share knowledge. Knowledge of any kind should be free. I commend universities that are opening their doors online for free, such as MIT! The more knowledge we share, the closer we move to improving the quality of life of all people. Sharing Knowledge also helps unite communities and creates a bond, so if you have some knowledge, be it a particular skill or ability, share it. Pass it on and create bridges with it. There are no set rules here so do it on your own free time or whenever you can.

Remember, we’re stuck with eachother for at least the next 50-100 years so let’s give the next round of freshers an awesome example to continue with. Life is meant to be beautiful, it is meant to be pure and filled with abundance, free from struggle, free from hate, fear and worry.

Community is so important. Let’s unite our communities and help eachother on this level as well. Uniting our communities and having strong leadership will make it easier to break down those divides. Get to know your neighbours! Buy local. Get involved and reach out.

Tap into your life energy. I call it Life Energy because I don’t know what else to call it to be honest but it can be anything you want to call it: God, Jesus, Allah, Buddah, it’s all the same Life Energy, the all encompassing, powerful, guiding, beautiful, loving, creator.  We just have different ways of interpreting these laws of nature.

The sooner you can accept that, the better you will feel about your neighbour, be they Jewish, Muslim, Christian, etc. It’s all leading to the same glorious divine Almighty entity.

Though, contrary to popular belief, spirituality has has nothing to do with religion. Tapping into your life energy is easier than you think. You don’t have to get all those scented candles and woo-woo music. Just take 5 minutes a day to quiet your mind and breath deep. Listen to your breath, think of only the best, kindest most loving thoughts possible the whole time. Start there. 5 minutes today and gradually, as you are comfortable, extend it to at least 30 minutes a day. Your days will be so much more beautiful. I promise.

Guard your thoughts. Don’t let negative or bad thoughts build up. The moment you’re thinking something negative stop yourself. Remind yourself that you’re not here to judge anybody, you’re here to just be great. You’re here to be a better human being. You’re here to contribute to a great cause by simply being good. Very simple: when you have a negative thought, just stop yourself in that instant. Think of Ice Cream. That’s what I do, it never fails! I think of all the Ben and Jerry’s flavours (starting with Chunky Monkey).

Lastly, we need to remember who we are. Not John Smith the plumber but who you really are. We are eternal souls. We’re here for a reason and that is to the be the absolute best we can be, doing what we love, creating and genuinely caring.

Don’t you want your great grandchildren to remember your name? Do something positive that will help humanity thrive. In your life cycle (which believe me is short) make it a point to pass on true, worthy, life-transforming knowledge to your children. Make their lives better by exercising your full will and being a kind, loving, creative soul. Give them tools to find the same power in themselves.

In time you will discover and feel absolute satisfaction in contributing positively to this collective round of souls (which we undeniably belong to). This doesn’t mean you have to go out and save the world, but just know that every time you make a person smile, it makes a difference. Every time you take part if sending out a positive message, be it with thoughts or words, it makes a difference! Find the beauty, even in the worst ugliness and it will make a difference in YOU as well. When the sun is shining, stop to feel it’s warmth. When you’re next to the sea, stop to listen closely to the waves. If you’re in a garden, remove your shoes and feel the grass beneath your feet. Really take those short moments to just appreciate the now, acknowledge within yourself that it’s a brief point in time of your stay here and it becomes so much more beautiful all of a sudden. Our time here is brief, it can all disappear tomorrow so today, do all that you can to make every moment the ONLY moment and just like that you move closer to being a better human being.

The light we once shared long long ago seems to have gone, my friends, but it really hasn’t left us… we just closed our eyes so open them up again.

Wake up now. It’s time.
